Norway - 10th country to cross

Special News: Finland performance from Professor Beierke (Alois numbers in bracket)

Total distance: 1314.9km. (662 km)

Total up climbing: 6271HM (3010 HM)

Total time on the bike: 52.9 Std (27.3 Std)

Backstage Information: My short assessment about Finland:

- Wonderful and very friendly people

- Excellent camping infrastructure

- Beautiful nature, lakes, reindeer

- Good streets but had to use the sometimes very busy streets E4/E8. No real alternatives possible

- North of Finland more interesting. Could be interesting in winter time.

- Think about mosquitos and how to protect

Starting point (A): Muotkan Camping, Ruoktu 

Ending point (B): Fjordutsikten Camping, Lakselv

During the night we had to avoid going out of Frank because the mosquitos were waiting impatiently for us. Using Frank's WC was mandatory to not invite more mosquitos to visit and bite us during our required sleeping phase. Nevertheless 10th of them made it into our home... a constant "sumsum" was the outcome. During breakfast we tried to eliminate some of them, with bloody results... 

Preparing our bikes for the tour was difficult and painful. We were happy when we startet to cycle. Temperature was at 18°C in the morning moving to 20°C later.

We had a thunderstorm this morning during our breakfast. Luckely the rest of the day was sunny with some clouds.

Left Finland after the first 44 km (at 8:30am) and entered Norway, the 10th and last different country on our cycling tour from Gibraltar to the Northkapp.

Alois met us after 100 km and together we made it to the new camping site by 1:30pm. We cycled 138km today and saw 3 Norway reindeer.

Good news: we are at the arctic sea with good wind which means : no mosquitos!!

Please remember that Norway is again 1 hour earlier compared to Finland.

    Die Kilometerleistung von Alois auf dem Rad ist beachtlich, wenn man bedenkt, dass er ja vorher auch noch mit dem Wohnwagen zum nächsten Campingplatz vorfahren muss. Viel Pause hat er ja dann auch nicht.
    Hoffe jetzt schon mal, dass ihr nicht zu viel LKW Verkehr im Nordkapp Tunnel habt.

Training for 2 - for 2025 Tour

 Stefan and I had a rainy training for 6 days on Mallorca. With total of 520km and 7000 AM we basically met the biking work from last year - except: we got totally wet on 4 training days of 6!! Germany has fantastic weather these weeks and we fly to this beautiful island for getting wet. At least we trained for consecutive 6 days and still have a lot of training to do for the next 6 weeks before we start our second part of our tour. We look forward for this tour!!!

Nordkapp

Fantastic News: we arrived at the Nordkapp after 80 km , 1400 HM at around 12pm. It was the toughest day of our journey as it was only 9°C, headwind plus raining. Performance statistics from Professor Beierke (Alois in brackets):   Gibraltar to the North Cape:        5.446,4 km ( 2.236 km)      37.853 HM (altitude), (14.160 HM) Believe it or not but we did every day in average 133 km (55 km) with 923 HM (354 HM). The Professor confirmed the data!! Statistic from this year cycle tour: Enschede - Nordkapp:      2.912,4 km (1.211 km)     16.506 HM  (6300 HM) Norway (10th country): 290 km and 2948 HM (altitude up) Backstage Information : Norway has a population of 5.6 million people. Peace

  After a good breakfast we were heading towards Enschede, the place we had to finish our tour last year. The distance was 170km from Edewecht to Enschede. To make peace with this town, we had to meet at the polder to start our tour to the Northkap this year. Done. Start of our tour was 12:30pm and we did 75km today. At 30oC it was a smooth and warm ride with no event or break. Alois went ahead with Frank and reserved a nice camping site place at the sea in Haselünne. Had a relaxed evening with great shower, good barbecue with salad and walk to the Haselünner sea. See you tomorrow!
